Writing Wedding Vows-Lining up Your Sight With Your Vision

Written by Linda on April 10th, 2009

When writing your own personal and unique wedding or commitment vows, what you are doing is lining up your sight with your vision. You are going to intentionally begin seeing with new eyes.

Sight is the mechanics of seeing what is out in front of you and taking it in and making judgments based on that information.

Vision is the dream you have for your life together created first in your imagination and then seen it through your eyes.

Let me help make it easy for you. We see and interpret things based on our past experiences and education from family, church, school and culture and society. If all you had been taught to see was red things you would mainly see red things. You would have to know that there were other things out there and want to see them.

People who have had major traumas in their lives see everything around them that supports the fear they have. They are always on edge.

I want you to be on edge too, but in a different way.

When you sit down together to begin writing your vows I want you to begin by creating a vision of the life you want to lead. You are going to talk about the dream you have for your own life and the life of your marriage or partnership.

Play in the realm of your imagination.

No doubt you have been doing that all along but now I want you to consciously talk about it and play with it.

Create a dream so colorful that it will jump off the paper and run out the door in front of you and pull you towards it.

In other words, I want you to begin seeing and noticing everything blue.

With ‘vision’ you create internally, and eventually as you reinforce that dream, your sight ’sees’ what supports your vision and your dream.

You move it from the inside to the outside.

When the vision on the inside is more compelling than what you have been conditioned to ’see’ the Universe is at your command.

Take back your birthright to live the live you choose.

What do you want to create in the next 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? Get as clear as you can about that.

Of course it will move and shift about as you begin to experience what you want. Then you go back and modify and edit your vision and the elements of the dream. Thats about growing up and developing wisdom.

But for now just go for the best and most you can imagine.

Dream BIG. Create a huge and massive energy.

What is the level of intimacy, friendship, joy and happiness you want to live from? That’s BIGGER than any of the ‘things’ you can have. But don’t leave out things that will support the kind of life you want to lead.

  • Sit down and write out that vision, that dream you have for your life and the life of your marriage. (Think it, ink it!)
  • Then begin writing your wedding or commitment vows as promises of what you will do to keep that dream alive and thriving.
  • Keep that vision in your sight by renewing that dream every day by reading your vows and take actions that supports it.

By keeping that dream alive your ’sight’ will eventually attract and ’see’ things, people, ideas, experiences and opportunities that support your ‘vision.’

To help you ‘keep that dream alive’ I wrote the 10 Commandments of Marriage. They are simple little steps that you can take on an ongoing basis to keep your dream front and center until you are standing in the midst of your dream and that’s all you ’see’ and experience.

I have a totally free copy of the 10 Commandments for you. It’s totally free because it’s my gift to you! Go print it out, laminate it and hang it on the refrigerator for an in-your-face reminder. 10 Commandments
